Scott Chaikin is executive chairman of Dix & Eaton Incorporated, an integrated communications consultancy specializing in public relations, investor relations, crisis communications and customer communications. He previously served as chief executive officer for 17 years.
Scott provides counsel on a broad range of communications issues to top management at many leading companies and institutions. He focuses on executive communications and is frequently called upon to help address the sensitivities involved in dealing with high-impact issues such as corporate crises, financial challenges and major corporate change events. These activities have included CEO succession planning and positioning; proxy fights and hostile takeover attempts; legal and regulatory challenges; culture change; and major acquisitions. He also advises on the organization and structure of communication departments. His clients have included global Fortune 50 companies and mid-sized companies in a wide range of industries, as well as leading not-for-profit organizations.
Scott currently chairs the global board of Worldcom Public Relations Group, the world’s leading partnership of independently owned public relations firms, with 143 offices employing some 2,000 staff in 115 cities across six continents.
He also serves on the board and marketing committee of the Musical Arts Association (Cleveland Orchestra), the board and marketing committee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the board and executive committee of PlayhouseSquare, the board and executive committee of the Greater Cleveland Partnership and the marketing committee of The Cleveland Museum of Art, and is a member of the Visiting Committee of the Weatherhead School of Management. Scott is an alumnus of the Leadership Cleveland program.
An award-winning writer, Scott earned a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College and had experience in public relations, journalism and fiction writing before joining Dix & Eaton in 1986.
