Mark Nylander – Senior Advisor

Mark Nylander is a seasoned and respected communications counselor and practitioner with a distinctive blend of talents as an experienced strategist, a skilled listener, an effective collaborator, and an accomplished communicator. A creative, results-oriented leader, Mark has a proven track record in strategic planning, communications and marketing, branding strategy, public affairs, media relations, financial management, process analysis and improvement, staff leadership, and client service.

He has nearly three decades of agency experience, including serving more than seven years as CEO of a Cleveland-based marketing communications firm where he provided leadership and direction as the seismic shifts that were reshaping the communications and marketing industry during the Great Recession required the creation of a new business model. Prior to his agency career, Mark was involved in a broad range of public relations and marketing assignments in positions of increasing responsibility for an international hospitality and consumer food product and service giant.

Mark’s communications and marketing experience and expertise is broad and deep. He has served as the lead strategist on scores of branding assignments while directing the critical steps to establish the unique brand positioning; counseled clients and senior staff on the development of contingency policies and procedures, preparation of crisis communications plans, and message development and delivery; conducted advocacy work with legislators and policy makers seeking their support for enacting policy updates and legislative reforms; built alliances with like-minded organizations, established business partnerships, and developed valued, trusted relationships with colleagues; and mentored and coached hundreds of professionals in the workplace to help them achieve their short-term and long-term goals.

A graduate of Kent State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mark serves on the School’s Professional Advisory Board and is a member of the adjunct faculty. Mark is Past President of the Board of Trustees and current Board member for Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity and serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He is a 2002 recipient of the William Taylor Distinguished Alumnus Award given by Kent State's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and in 2006 received the Lighthouse Award for career achievement and community service from the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
