If you haven’t checked out the Chicago Tribune’s latest effort at reinvention, take a few minutes to review ChicagoNow. The beta version, which debuted this week, is an aggregator that oozes community.
Twenty years ago, heck, five years ago, newspaper’s had a monopoly on community news. Their position of power allowed them to pick and choose what events would become part of a community’s daily chronicle. Today, bloggers, cell phone users, and other digitally armed residents have become ireporters in their communities, often bypassing newspapers, TV and other media as they post their own coverage.
ChicagoNow aggregates community blogs, invites (practically begs) for community involvement and two-way dialogue.
Another media experiment worth watching.
